Landfill surveying: better landfill management
Landfill monitoring and management rely on topographic surveys to control the volume of waste deposited, from the design phase to the final sealing of the site.
In the management of a landfill, surveying methods are essential to support the site operator and make the task easier, more precise and safer.
Surveying at each stage of a landfill
During the project phase, the following are required:
- From the outset, precise topographic surveys, volume calculations and the preparation of profiles.
- During construction, it is important to guarantee the waterproofing and the correct dimensioning of the surface of the access road to the main cell, together with the hydrology and drainage study.
- During the working life of the landfill, it is essential to quantify the volumes of deposited material with high precision.
- Surveying is also essential in the final phase of the landfill, for environmental control and monitoring and for sealing the site.
Techniques for volume control and slope monitoring
To achieve this, advanced techniques are used, such as terrestrial laser scanners or drones equipped with real-time GNSS RTK positioning. Continuous measurement is also crucial for observing the stability of the slopes. For this purpose, the use of robotic total station systems and monitoring software is recommended.
In summary
Land surveying services are fundamental at every stage of a landfill to guarantee safety, precision and efficiency in its management.
