Drone orthophotography and photogrammetry
An orthophoto is an aerial photo you can measure on: every pixel is in its place. We use it to see roofs, tracks, pools and vegetation on the plan at a glance, to follow a building site month by month or to map hundreds of hectares. We fly with a drone, support the flight with ground control in the field and deliver the product you need.
An image you can work with
An ordinary aerial photo is no good for measuring: it is tilted, distorted by the relief and has no coordinates. An orthophoto corrects those distortions and is georeferenced, so it lines up with the plan and with the map of the Cadastre (Catastro, Spain's land and property register for tax purposes). Before flying we set the resolution and the ground control points according to the use.
Over large areas, such as solar farms, power line corridors, industrial estates, roads or railways, the same flight produces the orthophoto and the terrain model from which contour lines, volumes, shadows and drainage are derived. And if you need to know what a site looked like before, we compare it with historical flights.
When you need photogrammetry
- To complete a topographic survey with what can be seen from above: roofs, tracks, vegetation.
- To document and follow a building site or a piece of land over time.
- To obtain point clouds and models of what is visible.
- When a team needs to draw features on a georeferenced base.
How we carry out the capture
We study the site, the flight conditions and the geometry of the shots. We plan the flight lines and overlaps, and set out ground control and check points according to the aim. For façades or specific objects, photography from the ground may work better. Airspace restrictions, wind and light decide the flight date.
Questions about Orthophotography and photogrammetry
Is the pixel size the precision of the work?
No. The resolution tells you how much detail you can see; the precision, how far you can trust the coordinates. The latter depends on the ground control and on the geometry of the flight.
Can you see the ground under the trees?
Photogrammetry only reconstructs what the camera sees. Under dense pine woodland the ground does not appear; there we propose LiDAR or measurement from the ground.
Can you fly over any plot?
It has to be checked for each site: near airports, protected areas or town centres there are restrictions. The owner letting us onto the property is not enough for us to be allowed to fly.
Tell us about your case
We review the paperwork and tell you what is needed.
Cadastral reference, what you want to do and by when. We look at the case and reply with a proposal and a quote.
