LiDAR and point cloud processing

Some terrain is hard to explain on a plan: a hillside covered in pines, a ravine, a facade full of detail. LiDAR records millions of points in three dimensions. We capture it, or process the data you already have, and give you what you will actually use from that cloud.

01

3D information where a plan is not enough

A point cloud stores the geometry of everything the sensor has seen. The useful work begins when you decide what to extract from it: the ground, the vegetation, the buildings, a set of profiles, a surface. We check coverage, density and quality so that the result answers the brief and can be handled without a laboratory workstation.

02

When to use LiDAR

  • On wooded land, where some of the pulses reach the ground between the tree crowns.
  • Over large areas or complex shapes: ravines, embankments, linear routes.
  • When 3D data is needed for models, sections or inventories.
  • To classify, clip or clean up an existing point cloud.
03

Capture and field checks

If capture is needed, we choose the platform and the flight or scanning conditions to suit the terrain. We set ground control and check points in the field and review the areas left hidden or with little coverage. If it is processing only, we first assess the data you give us and tell you whether anything needs checking on the ground.

FAQ

Questions about LiDAR and point clouds

Does LiDAR see through vegetation?

It does not go through it: some of the pulses slip through the gaps in the tree crowns and reach the ground. How much ground is seen depends on the vegetation and the capture. Under very dense scrub, almost nothing may get through.

Is a photogrammetric point cloud a LiDAR point cloud?

Both are 3D points, but they come from different techniques and behave differently, especially under vegetation. We always state where each point cloud comes from so that it is used within its limits.

Can you work with a point cloud I already have?

Yes, after checking the format, the reference system, the quality and the usage rights. From there we decide what to do: clean, classify, extract or generate models.

Tell us about your case

We review the paperwork and tell you what is needed.

Cadastral reference, what you want to do and by when. We look at the case and reply with a proposal and a quote.
